# Travel times, traffic and routes as data.

Canonical URL: https://www.rastriq.es/en/route-traffic-travel-time-data/ · Spanish version: https://www.rastriq.es/datos-rutas-trafico-tiempos-viaje/

> Google Maps routes, travel times, traffic and public transit as data: origin-destination matrices and hourly traffic profiles, with no Google API key needed.

Google Maps routes by car, public transit, on foot and by bike, N×M distance matrices and traffic profiles by departure time, as JSON or CSV and with no Google API key. For teams that make logistics, site selection and mobility decisions with measured travel times, not guesses.

QUICK ANSWER

**Quick answer:** Google Maps routes, travel times and distance by car, public transit, walking and cycling, with N-origin by M-destination matrices and traffic profiles by departure time, with no Google API key. There is a public 100-row sample in CSV and JSON. Run the actor on Apify with pay per result or receive a recurring dataset of your corridors.

USE CASES

## What route and traffic data is used for

Seven cases where a measured travel time replaces an estimate, with the fields each one uses.

Logistics and last mile

A warehouse-by-customer matrix returns the distance and time of every pair in one run, covering all combinations. With the traffic profile of a delivery area you see at which departure time the route gets longer and where to open delivery windows. It supports route assignment, fleet sizing and warehouse location scenarios.

Fields: `distanceMeters`, `durationSeconds`, `durationInTrafficSeconds`, `typicalRangeText`, `trafficLevel`

Retail and real estate site selection

For a candidate store you measure access time from each neighbourhood or catchment area, by car and by public transit, and compare both modes zone by zone. You can see which part of the area reaches the site on foot or by transit without a car, and how access differs between two alternative locations.

Fields: `travelMode`, `durationSeconds`, `walkingDistanceMeters`, `numTransfers`, `resolvedOriginName`

Urban mobility and planning

Measuring the same corridor every N minutes over one or several days gives you a congestion profile: when the road fills up and how much delay it accumulates against the no-traffic duration. Repeated in public transit mode, it lets you compare car and transit on the same origin-destination pair and repeat the measurement week after week to follow the evolution.

Fields: `requestedTime`, `durationInTrafficSeconds`, `trafficDelaySeconds`, `trafficLevel`, `avgSpeedKmh`

HR and commuting

To assess candidate offices, travel times are computed from areas or postcodes to each site, by car and by public transit, to see which one is more accessible. **Employee addresses are never used**: the origin is always an area, a neighbourhood or a postcode, and the data holds no personal information.

Fields: `origin` (area), `destination` (site), `travelMode`, `durationSeconds`, `numTransfers`

Travel and tourism

Door-to-door itineraries with departure and arrival times including time zone, lines, stops, operator, fare, transfers and walking distance. Useful for comparison sites, destination guides and trip planners that need to combine train, bus and metro with Google Maps timings.

Fields: `departureTime`, `arrivalTime`, `transitLines`, `fareAmount`, `fareCurrency`, `numTransfers`

Distance- and time-based service pricing

Freight, removals, home-visit technicians or on-demand transport are priced per kilometre or per minute. With the distance and duration of each route, and the toll flag when present, you can compute your rate on the same basis for every order and revisit the price when traffic conditions change.

Fields: `distanceMeters`, `durationSeconds`, `hasTolls`, `via`

AI agents

An agent that has to answer "how long from A to B at 8:00?" needs a structured answer, not a web page. The actor returns JSON with duration, distance, traffic and the exact place it resolved, in a single call, and the agent can cite the Google Maps link of each result.

Fields: `status`, `durationText`, `trafficLevel`, `resolvedDestinationName`, `googleMapsUrl`

**What is measured.** Each result is a route between two places, with its distance and duration. With live traffic if you ask to leave "now", and with Google's traffic prediction if you give a future date and time. For a profile, the same route is repeated every N minutes over one or several days.

**How to ask.** It takes lists of routes, matrices of N origins by M destinations and Google Maps links, with up to 8 waypoints and the option to avoid tolls, highways or ferries. Output is available in more than 40 languages.

Real public transit rows (metro, high-speed train, bus). Local times of the route; the field keeps the time zone. A "—" means Google did not return that value for the route. Line names arrive in the requested language.

**Data quality.** The `status` field is OK, NO_ROUTE or ERROR. A pair with no possible route is marked NO_ROUTE and delivered in the dataset: it is not filtered out. Every result carries the place Google resolved (`resolvedOriginName`, `resolvedDestinationName` and their `placeId`) so you can verify the right place was used.

DELIVERY

## How you receive the travel times

Choose between running the actor yourself, receiving a recurring dataset or commissioning a custom project.

Apify

You run the actor with your routes, matrices or links and download the dataset as JSON or CSV. Pay per result: only results with status OK count.

Channels: console, API

Recurring dataset

We measure your business corridors on a schedule, for example a weekly traffic profile of each corridor, and deliver the table ready to use.

Channels: S3, CSV, JSON

Custom project

Joins with your network of stores, warehouses or offices, and metrics computed by you or by us on the measured data.

FAQ

## Frequently asked questions about route and traffic data

### Do I need a Google API key?

No. The actor works without a Google API key: you provide the routes and get the result in the Apify dataset.

### Is traffic live or predicted?

It depends on the time you ask for. With "now" it returns live traffic; with a future date and time it uses Google's traffic prediction. The `timeMode` field tells you which was requested.

### What does NO_ROUTE mean?

That Google found no possible route between that origin and destination for the requested mode. The row is delivered with `status` = NO_ROUTE and is not filtered out, so you know which pairs failed. With pay per result, only OK results count.

### What if the place I type is ambiguous?

Google picks a place and the actor tells you which: every result carries the name, `placeId` and coordinates of the resolved origin and destination. If it is not the one you meant, repeat with a more precise address, coordinates or a Google Maps link.

### In which formats does the data arrive?

JSON and CSV from Apify or by API, with the matrix in seconds and metres. It can also be delivered on a recurring basis into your own S3 bucket. Output supports more than 40 languages.

### Is personal data involved?

It does not need to be. Origins and destinations are places, areas or postcodes, and results are times and distances. For HR cases, areas are used, never employee addresses.
